Friendship is Serving With Love

Updated: Jan 25

Friendship is serving with love. I had to post this podcast with Simon Sinek, founder of 'The Optimism Company', as it deals with one big reason why we are anxious, addicted, suicidal, and mentally ill. Many 'friends' are fair weather friends or 'mates', who will have a few pints with you or watch the football, but there may be no deep friendship there. They won't be there for you when you really need them. I have a couple of former friends like that and it hurts deeply. Be equally cynical about foul weather friends: There is no genuine connection.

When you meet a real friend face to face, give them a long hug, kiss them on the cheek, and say "I love you."

There is nothing frivolous or transactional about real friendship.

Friendship is serving with love

Find a couple of hours, sit back and enjoy...

Simon Sinek and Steven Bartlett on friendship, service, and love, and how they are all connected

People with better friendships are healthier, have greater mental wellbeing, and live longer. The 12th step of alcoholics anonymous is to serve another alcoholic, to become a sponsor, to become a friend. Once you have community, you still need real friends. You need that last step, not just fellowship.

Are you a good friend? Do you have good friends? Turning to strangers for external validation on TikTok or Instagram is not real friendship. Do you know how to make good friends? We have lost the art of making friends.

The art of making true friends to is to serve people with love. When you help someone with the thing that you are struggling with, then you make a true friend.

Navy Seals fear letting down their comrades more than dying. That is the basis of their courage. That is love. The highest performing teams on the planet come from a place of love. I have heard that at Gleneagles, the 3 Michelin Star restaurant in Scotland, and the number one restaurant in the UK, the head chef behaves lovingly in service to his staff. This is what brings the 3 stars: Not screaming like a more lowly chef.

As Simon Sinek says, when you meet a real friend face to face, give them a long hug, kiss them on the cheek, and say "I love you." I do, and it changes everything. We are afraid of expressing our emotions. That holds us back in terms of our friendships and relationships.

Simon Sinek has ADHD, just like me, and he believes that it can be a superpower. I agree totally.

I see you, I hear you, I see the divine in you.

Speak in such a way that others love to listen to you: Listen in such a way that others love to speak to you.

Namaste.

Sending you love, light, and blessings brothers.

Olly
