The secret to soothing anxiety is to prevent it from gathering momentum. As soon as the emotion anxiety hits, use conscious breathing. Breathwork involves taking a few deep, slow breaths to expel tension so it doesn't settle in your body.
Meditation is one of the most powerful tools at your disposal in calming anxiety.
You can also use your thoughts as described in this article to avert anxiety.
Finally, taking action towards emotional sobriety will dispel your anxiety. Anxiety is the distance between you and God.
Let me explain...

Calming anxiety

Meditation is the twin of mindfulness. When you meditate, breathe in love; breathe out fear.
Practice positive self-talk. Tell yourself, "This is a transient situation. I will find the best way of handling it. Everything will be okay." Do not let panicked inner voices get in the way of consoling your Self with kindness. Those voices are simply your inner critic and frightened ego expressing themselves in the only way that they know: Fear.
Then take a few steps back from the feelings. When you notice yourself becoming anxious, put your hand on your heart centre and tell yourself, "I will centre myself and lovingly detach from my state of overwhelm. This too shall pass." Refocusing on your heart will relax you and bring a helpful perspective.
Then set your intention: "I have power over my anxious thoughts and that gives me power over my anxious feelings. I will not board the thought train that leads to the destination called 'Anxiety'. I will use my breath and thoughts to quiet my mind."

Every day when you wake up think “What if nothing’s wrong?” or "What if it all turns out to be ok?" or "What is if all works out?" How would you feel then?
Anything can happen any day if you just open your eyes, surrender and let it in.
Gaining emotional sobriety is key to calming fear and anxiety. Emotional sobriety is my favourite transformative topic - it is when what you believe about your Self matches the facts about you and you feel good about your Self. Our default position is to believe the worst. When you are emotionally sober, the input of others does not determine what you think about your Self. You are not dependent on other people, places, events, or things for your joy. You are not dependent on external validation for Self-love and Self-worth.

Emotional sobriety means that we aren't emotionally intoxicated nor buffeted by the storms of our emotions.
Emotional sobriety is the diamond, the crux of the 12 steps, the distillation of the most important spiritual gold, the essence of healing and recovery.
In “The Next Frontier: Emotional Sobriety,” a letter written by Bill W in 1953 he reflects on how even longtime sober AA members can lack emotional maturity, craving approval and security like dependent adolescents. He shares his personal struggles with this, realising he must relinquish irrational dependencies on people and circumstances to access emotional freedom. Wilson suggests that the means to this emotional freedom is the outgoing, unconditional love embodied in the Prayer of St. Francis.
Bill W’s letter on emotional sobriety:
In contrast to emotional sobriety, emotional insobriety is the root of our problem. It’s grounded in fear. It’s an emotional syndrome. It contributes to most of our anxiety. It always causes us to ultimately fail unless we do something about it.
The 4 main keys to emotional sobriety are the '4 S's:
This change in your character will relieve you of your anxiety. It is when you accept your Self that you begin to change. If you put a new message to your Self over the old false message enough times, you will come to believe it. You will be touched by Grace - that's God working 24 hours per day for your highest good.
Give to others what you want and need. Give without expectation. Give love unconditionally. Accept people as they are. What you give is what you get - that's the Natural Law of Karma. This is a giving life. It is only by giving that you receive. The reward is in the giving. Proverbs 11:24-25 states "One gives freely, yet gains even more; another withholds what is right, only to become poor. A generous soul will prosper, and he who refreshes others will himself be refreshed.'
Namaste.
