Good Morning

There are two ways to wake up: The right way and the wrong way.


Firstly, the right way: I invest in my mind and body first thing in the morning.


My entire life changed the day I invested in a strong morning practice.


Hal Elrod wrote in ‘The Miracle Morning’ “How you wake up each day and your morning routine (or lack thereof) dramatically affects your levels of success in every single area of your life. Focused, productive, successful mornings generate focused, productive, successful days - which inevitably create a successful life - in the same way that unfocused, unproductive, and mediocre mornings generate unfocused, unproductive, and mediocre days, and ultimately a mediocre quality of life. By simply changing the way you wake up in the morning, you can transform any area of your life, faster than you ever thought possible.”


The question is do you wants miracles or grievances today? It’s all set up by your morning routine...


Good morning


The night before

Have a regular bed-time and regular wake-up time, even at weekends.


Waking up

Aristotle said “It is well to be up before daybreak, for such habits contribute to health, wealth, and wisdom.”


Prayer

You can pray before you even open your eyes, while you are lying in bed. Or you can get on your knees.


Here are three prayers that are a good place to start...


The step 3 prayer:

God, I offer myself to Thee to build with me and to do with me as Thou wilt.

Relieve me of the bondage of self, that I may better do Thy will.

Take away my difficulties, that victory over them may bear witness to those I would help of Thy Power, Thy Love, and Thy Way of life.

May I do Thy will always!


The serenity prayer:

God, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change,

The courage to change the things I can,

And the wisdom to know the difference.


The prayer of St Francis of Assisi:


Prayer works. You can invent your own prayers. Prayers work best as prayers of gratitude rather than supplication, as God is not here to do your will, you are here to do his. Give thanks for what you have, as this provides abundance, otherwise you are praying for lack, and that is what you will get.


Using 'The'Golden Key' (see my article on this) also works - its a prayer confirming the attributes of God/your Higher Power - compassion, forgiveness, love, wisdom, peace, and infinite power...



Meditation is the response to prayer: Like a voicemail from God. Spend 20 minutes meditating before each day. It will change your life.


Simply say to your Self three things that you are grateful for in your life.


A brisk outdoor walk

“We should take wandering outdoor walks, so that the mind might be nourished and refreshed by the open air and deep breathing,” stoic philosopher Seneca said. I walk with my dogs in the woods for 45 minutes whatever the weather. Did you know that having a dog prolongs your life expectancy by 10 years? You can practice mindfulness as you walk. There is peace in every step.


Yoga

If you have time, incorporate half an hour of yoga: One of the best 'treatments' for trauma according to the 'Bible' of trauma 'The Body Keeps The Score', which is in my 'Suggested Reading List.'


The wrong way to wake up

The wrong way to wake up involves checking your phone for news, emails, texts, and social media feeds before you even get up and having several coffees before leaving the house. I guarantee you will be miserable, angry, and anxious by lunchtime. It's the fast track to being an assh*le, burning out, and having a premature death.


Conclusions

You wouldn’t leave the house without having a shower to wash of yesterday’s dirt: A good morning practice will wash off yesterday’s negative thinking.


A strong morning practice is essential for mental, physical, and spiritual health.


I see you, I hear you, I see the divine in you.


Speak in such a way that others love to listen to you: Listen in such a way that others love to speak to you.
