Seeing With New Eyes

The real growth is when nothing has changed around you, but something has changed within you. Our disquiet is a spiritual dis-ease of perception. We have an obsession of the mind.
What you see might be the same, but your vision is completely different. You see through new eyes.
Marcel Proust wrote that "The real voyage of discovery consists not in seeking new landscapes but in having new eyes."
William Blake wrote that “If the doors of perception were cleansed everything would appear to man as it is, infinite.”

Seeing through new eyes
Carl Jung, the psychiatrist and spiritual Master wrote "Your visions will become clear only when you can look into your own heart. Who looks outside, dreams; who looks inside, awakes."
Robert Breault wrote “Perception is a clash of mind and eye, the eye believing what it sees, the mind seeing what it believes.”
Stephen Hawking wrote “There's no way to remove the observer - us - from our perceptions of the world.” Our sixth sense of perception is our mind, which, if allowed, distorts our reality.
When we are delusional, which is a form of psychosis, which may be due to holding on to resentments for example, our perceptions become negative.
Barbara Ehrenreich said accurately “Well I do think there are people who are habitually negative and depressed and take the opposite approach because they imagine the worst, and their minds become dominated by that. They let their own emotions and expectations transform their perceptions of the world.”
Spiritual dis-ease centres in our minds. Spiritual well-being centres in our hearts.
You are exactly as you have been, but now that person is now seen as being enough.
You have what you’ve always had but now you see everything as a blessing.
Frustrating situations still arise, but you find yourself not responding the same way. You no longer react. You respond, in your own time, not on their’s.
Thich Nhat Hanh wrote “Breathe in deeply to bring your mind home to your body. Then look at, or think of, the person triggering this emotion: With mindfulness, you can see that she is unhappy, that she is suffering. You can see her wrong perceptions. You can see that she is not beautiful when she says things that are unkind.”
Mahatma Gandhi wrote “Sense perceptions can be and often are false and deceptive, however real they may appear to us. Where there is realisation outside the senses, it is infallible. It is proved not by extraneous evidence but in the transformed conduct and character of those who have felt the real presence of God within.” Those people have known Truth.
Rudolf Steiner wrote that in Oriental philosophy “Everything perceived by our senses and all thinking connected with sense perceptions is 'maya,' the great illusion. The only reality is the reality of the soul. What a human being achieves in his or her soul is reality.”
It’s easy to think you’re growing when you’re changing everything around you but real progress is when you see the same old things in a completely new way.
At the same time “We must not allow other people's limited perceptions to define us” (Virginia Satir). Raymond Arroyo wrote of the famous nun who came from a dysfunctional childhood “Mother Angelica is proof that we are not limited by other's perceptions, and that God sometimes calls the most unlikely people to great things.”
Rudy Ruettiger wrote “Too many of us let others' wrong perceptions of us influence how we see ourselves.” This is so true and this really limits our possibilities until we free ourselves from these constraints. Matthew McConaughey wrote with sagesse “I don't dabble and spend much mind or time dealing with, I don't know, people's perceptions of me. I truly don't.“ Maria Brink puts it best “I will not bow down to others' perceptions of me; I will only rise in the name of art, love and music.”
Amen to that.
Namaste.
