Synchronicity

Updated: Mar 25

Synchronicities are the Universe’s way of revealing that you are exactly where you are meant to be at that moment in time. In every moment, the Universe is whispering to you. You're constantly surrounded by signs, coincidences, and synchronicities, all aimed at propelling you in the direction of your destiny. David Richo wrote “We do not create our destiny; we participate in its unfolding. Synchronicity works as a catalyst toward the working out of that destiny.”

Steve Maraboli wrote “When you stop existing and you start truly living, each moment of the day comes alive with the wonder and synchronicity… Synchronicity is the font with which God writes.” Dr Wayne Dyer wrote that “Synchronicity, it is like a collaboration with fate. All of that becomes the norm when the EGO (Edge God Out) is no longer the driving force in your life… So, it's really about modelling it and letting people know you are an inspired person, a person who is in spirit, and then those forces that Carl Jung called synchronicity begin to show up and, lo and behold, the Universe provides for you.

The Dalai Lama said that “I am open to the guidance of synchronicity, and do not let expectations hinder my path.

Marie-Louise von Franz wrote that “Synchronicity means a 'meaningful coincidence' of outer and inner events that are not themselves causally connected. The emphasis lies on the word 'meaningful'.

James Van Praagh wrote “There is a higher more powerful part of you. Your Higher Self will come through your intuition, coincidences and synchronicity of all kinds.”

Elisabeth Kübler-Ross, the psychologist, wrote that “There are no mistakes, no coincidences; all events are blessings given to us to learn from.

Albert Einstein wrote “The intellect has little to do on the road to discovery. There comes a leap in consciousness, call it Intuition or what you will, the solution comes to you and you don't know how or why.” He also famously said “God does not play dice.”

Deepak Chopra wrote “When you live your life with an appreciation of coincidences and their meanings, you connect with the underlying field of infinite possibilities… Synchronicity is choreographed by a great, pervasive intelligence that lies at the heart of nature, and is manifest in each of us through intuitive knowledge.

Carl Jung and synchronicity

Synchronicity is a concept introduced by analytical psychologist Carl Jung "To describe circumstances that appear meaningfully related yet lack a causal connection." Synchronicity experiences refer to one's subjective experience whereby coincidences between events in one's mind and the outside world may be causally unrelated, yet have another unknown connection. Jung held this was a healthy function of the mind. Jung developed the theory as a hypothetical noncausal principle serving as the intersubjective or philosophically objective connection between these seemingly meaningful coincidences. After coining the term in the late 1920s Jung developed the concept with physicist Wolfgang Pauli through correspondence and in their 1952 work 'The Interpretation of Nature and the Psyche'. This culminated in the Pauli–Jung conjecture. Jung and Pauli's view was that, just as causal connections can provide a meaningful understanding of the psyche and the world, so too may acausal connections. A 2016 study found 70% of therapists agreed synchronicity experiences could be useful for therapy. Analytical psychologists hold that individuals must understand the compensatory meaning of these experiences to "Enhance consciousness.”

The Pauli–Jung conjecture is the collaboration in metatheory between physicist Wolfgang Pauli and analytical psychologist Carl Jung, centred on the concept of synchronicity. It was mainly developed between the years 1946 and 1954, four years before Pauli's death, and speculates on a double-aspect perspective within the disciplines of both collaborators. Pauli additionally drew on various elements of quantum theory such as complementarity, nonlocality, and the observer effect in his contributions to the project. Jung and Pauli thereby offered the radical and brilliant idea that the currency of these correlations is not (quantitative) statistics, as in quantum physics, but (qualitative) meaning.

Contemporary physicist T. Filk writes that quantum entanglement, being "A particular type of acausal quantum correlations", was plausibly taken by Pauli as "A model for the relationship between mind and matter in the framework he proposed together with Jung. Specifically, quantum entanglement may be the physical phenomenon which most closely represents the concept of synchronicity.

A 2019 study proposed to test whether synchronicity manifests as an objective feature of the physical world. The results of whether Fibonacci algorithms would predict increased synchronicity experiences compared to chance showed "A significant difference (p < .10) between observed synchronicity matches and expected frequencies based on chance."

Carl Jung, who also consulted with Albert Einstein, wrote about “Synchronicity: A meaningful coincidence of two or more events where something other than the probability of chance is involved… Synchronicity is an ever present reality for those who have eyes to see... Synchronicity reveals the meaningful connections between the subjective and objective world… It all depends on how we look at things, and not how they are in themselves.”

Carl Jung explained that “The problem of synchronicity has puzzled me for a long time, ever since the middle twenties, when I was investigating the phenomena of the collective unconscious and kept on coming across connections which I simply could not explain as chance groupings or 'runs.' What I found were 'coincidences' which were connected so meaningfully that their 'chance' concurrence would represent a degree of improbability that would have to be expressed by an astronomical figure.

Carl Jung wrote that “This relation of the Self to all surrounding Nature and even the cosmos probably comes from the fact that the 'nuclear atom' of our psyche is somehow woven into the whole world, both outer and inner… Synchronistic events provide an immediate religious experience as a direct encounter with the compensatory patterning of events in Nature as a whole, both inwardly and outwardly.” He wrote that “I would now like to propose that instead of ‘causality’ we have ‘(relatively) constant connection through effect,’ and instead of ‘synchronicity’ we have ‘(relatively) constant connection through contingency, equivalence, or ‘meaning.’ Synchronicity could be understood as an ordering system by means of which ‘similar’ things coincide, without there being any apparent cause.”

Synchronicity and Enlightenment

Deepak Chopra quoted “According to Vedanta, there are only two symptoms of Enlightenment, just two indications that a transformation is taking place within you toward a higher consciousness. The first symptom is that you stop worrying. Things don't bother you anymore. You become light-hearted and full of joy. The second symptom is that you encounter more and more meaningful coincidences in your life, more and more synchronicities. And this accelerates to the point where you actually experience the miraculous.”

Meditation, alignment, and synchronicity

Deepak Chopra wrote that “Meditation is the progressive quieting of our mind, until we reach the source of thought, which in wisdom traditions are the realm of our soul and spirit. In this domain of awareness there is infinite creativity, synchronicity, the power of intention, and freedom from limitations. Many people enter into meditation practice to increase focus, productivity, and mental health. These reasons alone aren’t enough - if you’re only meditating to reduce stress, you’re not going to maintain the practice for very long. This is because the real benefit of meditation is that you align with your soul. As a meditator, you reach beyond the veil to understand who you really are and what reality is. When you unlock the spiritual impact of meditation, it becomes a transformational experience in all ways. You won’t want to stop once you touch a higher state of consciousness. It’s everything. Meditation helps you understand that these things you’re worried about don’t really matter because they’re part of a story you’re playing out. All of this reality is kind of an illusion, which means you’re playing a role here, and the only things that last after the play is over are your soul lessons. Everything else is illusory and temporary.

The Universe wants us all to come toward love. It wants to heal. When you shift your focus and activities to the same desires of the whole Universe, this is alignment. And then interesting things begin to happen.

You’ll see more synchronicities as you meditate more. You’re co-creating this world with the greater consciousness that is the Universe. The world becomes more organised because you’re more organised. You are cooperating with the organisation of the Universe, and it’s all because you are meditating.

You will find that the right things just happen at the right times. The path just unfolds before you effortlessly. The Universe is moving into alignment with you and you’re reciprocating. So, the energy that will help you achieve your purpose, as it fits into the greater purpose of the Universe, is channelled toward you. As Hermann Hesse wrote “Each man had only one genuine vocation - to find the way to himself... His task was to discover his own destiny - not an arbitrary one - and to live it out wholly and resolutely within himself. Everything else was only a would-be existence, an attempt at evasion, a flight back to the ideals of the masses, conformity and fear of one's own inwardness.”

The Universe will do anything to help you and support you if you are working in alignment with it. Work toward more love, not more hate. Help increase love, understanding, and compassion - help to stop conflict, hate, destruction, chaos, and anger. Go lovingly into the world.

Antero Alli wrote that “Yesterday they called it coincidence. Today it's synchronicity. Tomorrow they'll call it skill.” It's a skill that is truly worth having!

Carl Jung said that “The meeting of two personalities is like the contact of two chemical substances: if there is any reaction, both are transformed... As far as we can discern, the sole purpose of human existence is to kindle a light in the darkness of mere being.”

Sending you love, light, and blessings.
