How Do ACEs Burnout? Vol III The Pivot & the Crossing: From Rock Bottom to Love
The Pivot and the Crossing: From Rock Bottom to the Will to Love
How Do ACEs Burnout? — Volume III
What happens when the person who has spent a lifetime being excellent can no longer continue?
The first two volumes of How Do ACEs Burnout? traced the journey from childhood Trauma, conditional love and contingent worth to the machinery of professional excellence, institutional exploitation and burnout.
Volume III turns towards the question that remains when the machinery finally stops: Who am I when I am no longer what I do?
Drawing together developmental psychology, neuroscience, philosophy, the humanities and contemplative traditions, The Pivot and the Crossing explores the possibility that collapse may become something more than an ending.
The Pivot is the moment at which the old direction is questioned. The Crossing is the difficult, uncertain passage from a life organised around earning love towards one in which love need no longer be earned.
At its heart lies Re-Collection: the possibility of recovering the parts of the Self that were surrendered in the struggle to become acceptable, indispensable and excellent.
This is not a promise of effortless recovery, nor another demand to become a better-performing version of oneself. It is an exploration of what it might mean to stop living as the person one had to become, and begin living as the person one is.
The first fork was choiceless; the second fork is the first real choice.
From the Fire, through the Furnace, to the Will to Love.
